Children's Nursery - More Information
Registration:
Before leaving your child with the nursery for the first time, please fill out a registration card (available from the nursery staff). This card informs the nursery staff of your child's name, date of birth, allergies, special needs while in the nursery, and other pertinent information.
Sign-In Information:
- Please sign in on the Sign-In Sheet (located in the entrance between Nursery Room 1 and 2) every time you drop your child off at the nursery.
- Please take a pager located in the pager pockets on the door of Nursery Room 2. Please indicate the number of your pager on the Sign-In Sheet, and make sure to turn your pager on.
- Please then take your child to the appropriate classroom and communicate any needs your child may have to the nursery staff so that they can ensure quality care for your child.
- Please send extra diapers, wipes and clothes (if needed) for your child, and make sure you label your child’s bag, cup, snack, bottles, etc.
- Children will be released to the parents or a designated adult, but will not be released to an older sibling. If someone else will pick up your child, please let the nursery staff know when dropping off your child.
- If your child needs to eat a meal while in the nursery, please make sure you let the nursery workers know when and what they should eat. If you have a bottle that needs to be prepared, please be sure to give the nursery workers instructions on how to prepare it for your child.
- Please do not allow your child to bring toys from home to play with while in the nursery. We do not want your child’s toys to get broken or misplaced.
- When a concern arises, the nursery staff will page the parents. For example, if your child has been crying due to separation anxiety, and he/she is inconsolable, then the nursery staff will page the parents to help calm and soothe the child.
Snacks:
Occasionally, snacks may be provided for children during their time in the nursery. Allergy lists will be consulted before serving these snacks and parents should ensure all information is up to date. All snacks will be age appropriate as noted by the manufacturer of the product to avoid choking hazards. Please feel free to bring in your own snack for your child if you prefer.
Sign-Out Information:
Please sign out on the Sign-In Sheet, indicating you have picked up your child. Please TURN OFF your pager and place it back in the correct pager sleeve before you leave.
Health Requirements for the LCUMC Nursery:

- Signs of a possible severe illness such as lethargy, abnormal breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, rash with fever, mouth sores with drooling, behavior changes, headache, sore throat, or any other signs of severe illness
- Lice (all nits must be gone before returning to the nursery)
- A communicable disease (your child must no longer be contagious before returning to the nursery)
Questions/Comments:
Any nursery questions or concerns that a parent may have can be directed to the Nursery Supervisor, Cathy Schmitz. You can also send an email to her at nursery@lcumc.tv.
Nursery Volunteer Information:
While the nursery at LCUMC does hire employees to work on a normal basis, there are times when we just need more loving hands. These are the times we count on volunteers to fill the gaps. We can never have too many names in the volunteer pool! Please contact Cathy Schmitz if you are interested in volunteering in the nursery.
Volunteer duties include:
- Interacting with the children (playing, rocking, reading, etc.)
- Redirecting children if a discipline issue arises
- Assisting the nursery staff with providing a positive and loving atmosphere for all children
- No Diaper Changing Duties!!
Once a child has been in the nursery for 3 months, we expect at least one parent to volunteer for service once every 6 to 8 weeks. In this manner every parent will have a first hand experience with the nursery and will become acquainted with the staff and other volunteers who are there. This will ensure continued quality care for all our little ones.
All volunteers must complete a criminal background check as well as LCUMC’s Safe Sanctuary Training.
